Portugal

Our vision is to come alongside of low-income Romani (Gypsy) families in Grandola, Portugal, to lead them to Christ and encourage them to leave a life of cyclic poverty.

Ministry Focus

The Romani (Gypsy) people groups in Portugal are part of a broader population of the most marginalized peoples scattered throughout Europe. Those living within Portugal can often, and sadly so, be involved in gang and drug activity, other forms of crime, and witchcraft. However, they are readily receptive to spiritual conversations and devoted to their families and ancestral heritage.

In Grandola, where we minister, many families rely on social assistance from the government and are often tied to that form of income. In the midst of this, we are seeking to minister to upwards of 20 Romani families, encompassing approximately 100 individuals.

We have been accepted into their community, often being received with opens arms when we walk into their homes. Because of this, we have established Bible study groups and a prayer group, while seeking to do mainly one-on-one ministry through regular visitation. We participate in meals in their homes and seek to present biblical truths as much as we can.

I (Fernando) lead the Bible study groups, and I (Teresa) lead the women and children’s ministries, along with the prayer group. We both seek to minister to all ages and have witnessed some of the youth move on to pursue higher learning in the manufacturing industry and even politics.
