Many girls in rural areas of Honduras aren’t able to study beyond grade six for economic or other reasons. Girls, in particular, are often expected to work at home, with many becoming young mothers. In fact, the average age of first pregnancy in Honduras is 14.
In response to these needs, at the Mission of Truth and Life Residential Training Centre, our desire is to help break the cycle of poverty and abuse for young women, in order to provide them opportunities for a better future. As the director, I mentor and care for our amazing national staff, oversee our curriculum development, teach classes and devotions, and set the spiritual tone for our staff and students.
At our Centre, our students live on our residences while taking classes in sewing, cooking, computers, English, leadership, finances, business administration, biblical studies, and more. At the end of our two-year program, our graduates receive sewing machines to start their own home-based businesses in their villages!
For my entire Christian life, I have felt the call to evangelism and overseas missions. I attended Bible college, served on my home church pastoral staff, and then later enrolled at Trinity Western Seminary, where I earned a Master of Ministry degree and a TESL certificate. For 14 years, I served as an “undercover missionary,” working with international students in Vancouver, leading many of them to Jesus! In 2011, God called me to Trujillo where I have been ministering ever since.
