Out of a population of 17 million, more than 50% of the residents in Guatemala live below the poverty line. Despite education typically being free, many families often can’t afford school uniforms, supplies, and miscellaneous fees. Moreover, over 70% of secondary schools are private, requiring families to pay tuition. Because of this, many students don’t finish education past grade six.
Sensing God’s call to go, I will be heading to Guatemala to help fellow global workers, Hector and Ruth Aragon, run our ChildCARE Plus (CCP) program. CCP Guatemala reaches over 500 children, in 17 locations throughout the country. When I arrive, I will focus on learning the language, so I can communicate with the children and parents in their heart language.
While being mentored and guided by the Aragons, I will assist with administration tasks and social media. I will also connect with and listen to CCP families’ stories, host short-term teams, and potentially run summer camps.
For the past 12 years, I have served as a children’s director to many precious children. I oversee all my church’s Sunday and midweek programs from ages newborn to grade six. During the time, I obtained my Diploma in Bible Studies from Emmanuel Bible College. I have also worked at McDonald’s for over 20 years, working with teams of various ages, cultural backgrounds, and life experiences. I have always loved missions, participating in many short-term mission trips to such places as Attawapiskat in northern Ontario, Ukraine, Honduras, and Guatemala (six times).
